Tony Jordan, of Auxilione, an independent energy consultant, said: “This is important as we will be fully reliant on gas flows heading toward Europe for the first time ever after the loss of Russian piped gas. Of course, if China step up demand as they come out of lockdown this would probably impact the European market and more so if we also need the supply.
“Right now it’s a ‘watch and wait’ moment. The market has some short-term relief factors that would suggest we have the opportunity to manage prices into the summer, but at the same time any global event could push us off course and introduce volatility.”
